Wedding Planning Tip #3: Start Early

My bridal gown by Maggie Sottero / Bridesmaids dresses from Morilee by Madeline Gardner

Whether you are a bride that wants a shorter engagement, or a bride that wants a longer engagement period, if you’re going to have a traditional wedding with a bridal gown/bridesmaids/groomsmen/catering/flowers, give yourself (and the people you are asking to be involved in your wedding) ample time to plan accordingly. As soon as you know your wedding date, talk to people. Let the people you want involved know the dates, expectations of them, budget requirements, etc. as soon as you can. I never realized how long things take to get ordered/how fast dates book up. Don’t forget about order delivery times and busy seasons. A lot of people don’t know that bridal gowns often take up to 6 months to arrive, and bridesmaid dresses taking about 4 months. I luckily went shopping for my dress about a year out from my wedding without even knowing this, but I’m so glad I did. I had plenty of time for ordering, adding accessories, for alterations, and to have one less thing to worry about as the day quickly approaches!
